Job Title: Technical Trainer & Author    

Location: North West               

About the role:

The position is based within an Automotive manufacturer and is responsible for leading the design and development of global training interventions, delivered by the manufacturer, for all technical retailer roles (circa 2,000 staff across 202 retailers globally). The role holder is responsible for technical car launch training solutions, enabling Technicians to be competent in new technology to achieve global PDI standards.

The role holder will design and implement key processes and systems for the delivery of best in class training. This will include the development of engaging, interactive blended learning programmes, delivered using a variety of training mediums (instructor led, practical, online and coaching). The role holder will work with Academy, VW Group, Porsche, Audi, Regional teams and the retailer network to identify training needs. The role holder will attend cross-functional working groups to understand central training objectives and identify cost effective opportunities for blended learning solutions.

Position Summary:

  • Creation and Delivery of core technical and project-based training programmes

  • To deliver engaging, learner-focused training solutions.

  • Ensure all training delivered is aligned to agreed manufacturer standards and regional requirements.

  • Utilise appropriate technology in the delivery of learning interventions, such as e-learning and virtual classrooms.

  • Developing training materials necessary for the delivery of curriculum and new vehicle launch courses.

  • Perform all aspects of the role to the agreed standards set out within yearly objectives between our client & Impetus Automotive.

  • Project manage curriculum training events.

  • Responsible for understanding and monitoring of all levels of training from Apprenticeships to Master Technicians.

  • Work within budgets to deliver key tasks on time, within budget.

  • Work to deliver train by the Trainer events globally with key learning materials.

  • Manage and maintain locally training facility, vehicle and tool standards to appropriate audit requirements.

  • Completion of associated administrative tasks in time agreed.

Candidate Specifications:


  • Practical current vocational skills and expertise in the areas you are required to train.

  • Electrical/Mechanical knowledge through practical experience.

  • Proven track record of consistently achieving performance targets.

  • A team player yet capable and willing to work on own initiative.

  • Ability to work cross functionality within the business/group to create accurate training materials.

  • Ability to maintain a dynamic and engaging delivery style at all times.

  • Ability to engage groups of delegates at every stage of the learning process.

  • Analytical and conceptual thinking – using logic and reason, creative and strategic.

  • Maintains credibility by keeping up to date with new and revised learning and development theories, practices and methodologies including technological advancements.

  • Influencing and negotiation skills.

  • Good communication skills – Interpersonal, presentation and written.

  • A genuine interest and passion for the automotive industry.

  • Ability to demonstrate project management skills.

  • Competent IT skills – All Microsoft Office Packages

  • Full UK Driving Licence


  • Industry/manufacturer recognised delivery accreditation.

  • Experience of utilising technology in the delivery of training such as webinars, social media.

  • Experience of working in a learning & development department.

  • An understanding of assessment tools and their links to learning & development.

  • Experience of developing others.

  • An understanding of blended learning and its application.

  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of L&D.

  • VWG brand/system knowledge.

  • Able to commute to the relevant client locations.

  • Another European language desirable.
