Milton Keynes, England, United Kingdom

Formula One is a high-tech world of fast paced innovation and engineering excellence, and its industry leading standards are not just limited to the pit lane. Whilst Red Bull Technology designs, manufactures, assembles and develops a championship-winning Formula One car week on week, its sister business and high performance vehicle engineering division, Red Bull Advanced Technologies, is applying expert engineering, design, technology, simulation and production capabilities to other sectors.

From hot air balloons to bikes to boats, Red Bull Advanced Technologies takes the same tools, techniques and methods used in F1, the world’s fastest development cycle, to engineering challenges across land, sea and air, and at blistering pace.

Red Bull Advanced Technologies: We envision, conceptualise, create and deliver effective solutions.

Job Description

Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT) is a dynamic hub of innovation, consistently pushing the boundaries across land, sea, and air. Our project portfolio is unparalleled. Beyond the groundbreaking RB17 Hypercar and the Red Bull-commissioned submarine, we actively partner with the KTM Moto GP Team and collaborate with Alinghi Red Bull Racing in their America’s Cup campaign. Drawing on Formula One expertise and precision, we elevate the AC75 Racing Yacht and revolutionize Moto GP aerodynamics.

Red Bull Advanced Technologies are constantly elevating performance to new heights, and the recently announced RB17 two-seat Hypercar is set to be the ultimate on-track driving experience pushing design and technical boundaries far beyond what has previously been imagined.

We are looking for a Group Leader to join our Structural Analysis group!

Key Accountabilities:

  • Carry out first-stage sizing calculations and FEA studies to enable early decision making and to support the sales team during the bid process for new projects.
  • Assist in the scoping of new projects, including gathering and compiling information, then dividing larger projects into work packages for individual engineers.
  • To work with others to define the structural analysis methodology for each project, taking into consideration time and resource constraints.
  • Assist in estimating stress engineering resource required per project. To be involved in the recruitment process for stress engineers, as requested by line manager.
  • To provide technical support and supervision to each stress engineer, by regular ‘over-the-shoulder’ discussions. Ensuring that work is being conducted efficiently at all times, and that progress stays on schedule.
  • To have extensive knowledge of advanced materials (metals and composites), to be able to advise on suitable materials selection to achieve product structural specifications.
  • During the design process: to escalate any issues as soon as they can be foreseen, including deviations from plan that will increase liability, resource requirements, risk or cost.
  • To seek opportunities for mass reduction and product optimisation, including performance, manufacturing, cost.
  • To ensure all analyses are concluded with a suitable structural report in a pre-determined RBAT format, and to ensure these are complete and signed off.
  • Report checking, approval and process governance are key to the role.
  • To personally undertake some analysis work, including finite element analysis of complex multi-material high-performance assemblies in minimal time frames.

Essential Competencies:

  • Higher education in engineering, design or related discipline.
  • Proficient and experienced in finite element analysis and optimisation of high-performance composite and metallic structures.
  • Experience working in a competitive, fast-paced, engineering environment.
  • Ability to have a flexible approach; defining suitable methodologies that comply with performance, safety, time and budget constraints.

At Red Bull Advanced Technologies, we offer more than just a job. Beyond competitive salaries, our comprehensive benefits package includes private health care, life assurance, and a company-contributed pension scheme. You’ll also enjoy perks like an on-site gym, fitness classes, daily food allowance, free barista style hot drinks, and of course, lots of Red Bull to keep you firing on all cylinders!
