We are looking for a qualified MOT Tester to join our existing team, ideally with some existing skill and experience of servicing and maintaining motor vehicles, and who also wants to move towards being involved in training young people and others in motor vehicle maintenance and repair. This means the role will include, initially:
● Conducting MOT tests to the current required standards
● Providing small repairs and remedial works to vehicles subject to MOT
● Depending upon previous experience and training and the employee’s own career objectives, undertaking further levels of technical work, servicing, inspections, repair work and diagnostics, as normal for a leading independent workshop
Plus, over time:
● Assisting with the delivery of accredited training to trainees (from 1 to a maximum of 4 trainees at one time) of all levels (entry level and level 1 – typically 14-16 year old level) and supporting their development
● Managing and working alongside trainees during the work experience / apprenticeship element of their development;
(Rough estimate of time allocation, eventually: 90% working on customer vehicles / 10% assisting with training.)
While the role initially will be based primarily on conducting MOT testing, we would fully support any employee who wished to further develop their motor vehicle skills; for example with Bosch diagnostics courses (potentially leading to IMI accreditation), or an Adult Apprenticeship, or similar, as appropriate and as agreed with the employee.
We will also provide - as we do to all our staff - Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training in, for example, Hybrid vehicles, Air Conditioning, Diagnostics, Annual MOT assessment, Customer Service, etc.
Training will also be given to allow the technician to obtain the skills required to give and assess the training we are offering to young people.
Excellent spoken and written English
Flexible, team player, able to work alongside others and guide and mentor them
An approachable personality, with clear, confident communication ability and a desire for furthering others
Used to working to main dealer standards, completing job cards, using modern equipment
Clean, current DVSA qualification to conduct MOT tests
Clean, current driving licence
At least 1 year’s relevant experience as an MOT tester, plus further previous workshop experience
A recognised motor vehicle qualification: IMI, NVQ, City & Guilds, ATA or similar
