Industrial Placement - Design - Chassis / Powertrain

These placements will be based within the Design Department where your role will be similar to that of a full time Design Engineer. The work will be real, interesting and relevant to your studies, helping to develop and test a broad range of skills drawn from the knowledge you have gained at University.

The role will include 3D CAD design work and technical drawings, as well as liaising with external suppliers and internal departments.

Preferred students should be studying towards a degree that has been accredited with the IMechE and meets the academic requirements of a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

• An Industrial Placement in Design is ideally suited to Mechanical and Automotive students.

• A high percentage of industrial placement students go on to join Triumph in full time employment after graduating.

• Your role as a Student Design Engineer will be either as part of a powertrain design team or a chassis design team.

• The role will develop and test a broad range of skills which will include 3D CAD design work and technical drawings and could also include a variety of subjects such as development testing and computer simulation such as FEA.

• As part of your responsibilities as a Student Design Engineer you will be required to communicate with external suppliers as well as other departments within the company such as Purchasing, Quality, Assembly and Manufacturing –developing key skills required by industry.

• We have an IMechE accredited MPDS (Monitored Professional Development Scheme) and a number of Chartered mentors to assist you with your progress on the MPDS.

• Must be on track to achieve a 2:1 or above in an IMechE accredited degree which meets the requirements of a Chartered Engineer (CEng). The CVs will be considered by the department managers during November and December 2017 and successful candidates will be asked to attend an assessment centre to be held between November 2017 to February 2018. This involves completing 2 aptitude tests online and a personality questionnaire.

Applicants who successfully pass the shortlisting process will then be invited in to Triumph to complete another aptitude test and take part in a group exercise. This entails problem solving as part of a group.

As part of the session, applicants are taken on a factory tour and there will be the opportunity to ask questions.

The final stage of the assessment day will involve attending a formal interview with Senior Engineers from the Design Department, following which a selection will be made.

Please note that this role is only open to undergraduates who need to undertake a year out in industry as part of their degree course.
