A Customer Service job in the automotive industry will mainly consist of offering advice to customers on regular maintenance and trying to upsell certain products and services as well as dealing with customer enquiries, concerns and general office administration work. They are responsible for gathering data to pass onto service advisors or mechanics. They will do this via different methods of communication whether it is face to face, email or over the telephone. This role is quite similar to that of the Service Advisor role.
What is needed
To be a customer service representative the candidate must be able to communicate fluently in English, they must be able to analyse and solve problems, they must have exceptional people skills and be able to multitask and prioritise tasks. No specific experience is necessary however an interest in the automotive industry is desirable and will be taken on board when applying for customer service job roles, as well as a background in some sort of sales field.
Customer Service roles will often be in a well lit and clean office or front desk at a garage / dealership. Normal working hours will be Monday to Friday 8-5pm with some weekend work depending upon the type of business. Quite a lot of their time will be spent talking to people on the phone
The average customer service wage is normally between £12,000 & £25,000 depending on age and location of the company. This can significantly increase by meeting targets such as commission based bonuses.
