Job Description

Location: Wimbledon

Salary: Up to £28,000 per annum depending on experience

Hours: Mon-Friday 9 am -6 pm, 20 paid holidays and a free Streetcar membership

Streetcar is pioneering the concept of car clubs across the UK and has tripled in size in each of the last two years.  We have equally ambitious growth plans for the coming 18 months with our fleet expanding from 900 vehicles to over 2000 vehicles by the end of 2009.  The majority of the fleet is composed of VW Golfs with a small proportion of panel vans making up the rest of the fleet.

Streetcars Repair Technician will be working closely with Streetcars Remarketing Manager to ensure all de-fleeted vehicles are prepared to the required standard and in time for collection by our purchasers.   We de-fleet our vehicles when they reach 12 months and on average we defleet 7-8 vehicles per week.  Once a vehicle is de-fleeted it is taken back to our depot in Wimbledon where our Repair Technician will assess the vehicles condition to ascertain whether they can be prepped for sale using our small in-house workshop or need to be sent to one of our partner bodyshops.  Currently our Repair Technician is repairing 4 vehicles a week.

As the Repair Technician you must be competent in painting, stripping and fitting parts, and general mops on vehicles.  Smart repair experience is not a must but would be considered a bonus.   All repairs which will be completed will be minor or small.  You must also be comfortable estimating jobs and have a good grasp on types of damage and their associated costs.  Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office is also an advantage as you will often be liaising with head office through email to provide estimates and advise which vehicles are ready for sale.  All bodyshop equipment required will be supplied.

Whilst technical ability is important for this role the successful candidates personal characteristics are just as important.  You must be composed under pressure and be able to work to tight deadlines while maintaining a high standard of work.  You must also be take pride in your work while being ambitious and enthusiastic about what you do.   Your communication skills must be exemplary and you should work well within a team.  You must also be flexible and be happy to work extra hours to push out a large batch of vehicles if necessary.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone within the industry who wants to join an ambitious, rapidly expanding company and who wants to take on a load of responsibility.  As the fleet and company are growing so quickly there is huge scope for advancement and there is a strong possibility Streetcar will be setting up a much larger in-house repair facility in the middle of next year.
