An Engineering related degree will stand you in good stead however it is not an essential as you can do apprenticeships straight from college.
Working Conditions
Working hours are normally Monday to Friday 9-5, however some jobs may require shift work and extra hours depending on the size of the job. Most of the job will be carried out in an office, research facility or workshop and is relatively stress free.
Salary Guide*
The average starting salary for an Engineering Apprenticeship is between £23,000 to £30,000 depending upon the employer and the class of the degree.
An experienced Engineer can earn between £35,000 to £45,000 and finally for Senior Engineering roles they can earn up to £65,000 plus benefits.

There are many opportunities to progress in the Engineering field. For example Experienced Engineers can move into supervisory positions and even senior management positions.
